Dinner Woes

I hate dinner time! My husband, E and I sit down at the table every evening to enjoy a home cooked meal and some wonderful conversation. Or that's the plan. Then we ask J to join us...major mistake. So I know she missed her major eating milestones and it has left her in a state of food pickiness like no other toddler we know. But seriously, I'm at a loss. I never thought I'd have a child who eats nothing but bread, peanut butter, and ice cream.

And bright blue cupcakes!

"At least you can come over and see I put a piece of white bread on your plate."

"No it doesn't have peanut butter on it, but at least come see."

"Yes, I guess it is touching the green beans, but I promise it will still taste like nothing and melt in your mouth."

"Don't try any of these new foods!  I know that's not happening anytime soon, but join us. Just sit. Drink milk!"

Never works! And then E asks for us to pass her J's plate and it's gone.

But last night...

(drum roll, please)

J ate ONE bite of chicken.

I covered everything on her plate with peanut butter. Chicken, veggies and yes, her single white piece of bread! And she took a bite. It's just one bite and the new texture made it hard to swallow. But it was swallowed...it's in there! And that has to mean it will lead to more bites.

I'm not canceling feeding therapy anytime soon! We still have a ways to go. Lesson learned...kids with delays might not get to their goals the traditional route and it's okay to cheat with a little or a lot of peanut butter.
